In the mundane world a sense of not belonging to a peer group can lead to a feeling of isolation, of being an outcast.

In waking life we are aware of restrictions and boundaries that are not necessarily self-imposed.

Any sense of being beyond some kind of boundary can mean one of two things: either we have deliberately put ourselves ‘beyond the pale’ or we have inadvertently offended against the rules of the society or group.
